Long Weekend

Drop everything and take a long weekend and spend some time in San Francisco! That's what Jim and I did last weekend and we had a blast.

There's nothing like a mini vacation to rejuvenate your mind and give you fresh ideas. I found some major inspiration in the beautiful architecture on our walk to Haight Street.

Us On Canvas

So it's been six months since we began our house hunting journey. The good news is that we found our dream house! The bad news is that we've been waiting for three months and we're counting down the hours before we can put pen to paper and make it ours.

In the mean time I am killing myself just thinking about all of the things I want to do. On the top of my list is taking my favorite engagement photo, blowing it up on canvas and finding the perfect place for it in our new house.

I know it's been a while since my last post but I will have tons of things to talk about in the near future. I will be sure to take a ton of before pictures and hope to reveal a ton more after pictures as time progresses.

Extra Room

Moving from a one bedroom apartment into a 3-4 bedroom house sends me reeling with ideas of what to do with those extra rooms!

Perhaps a walk-in closet?

Independence Day

The 4th of July is by far my favorite holiday. There is nothing better than celebrating our independence with friends, sun, food, drink and a whole lot of relaxation.
For the past seven years the husband and I have spent the 4th at a very good friend's home on Rocky Bay near Gig Harbor. In my opinion it's a little bit of paradise not too far from home. Speaking of which, here's what our home away from home looked like this year:

The neighbor next door is a licensed pyrotechnician and the inventor of a high-tech fireworks display program. What's the 4th without a little BING BANG BOOM!

A place for rings

For Maria's mom's birthday we went to one of those cute pottery painting places that you see in the mall sometimes. It was a great opportunity for me to hone my semi-homemade creative skills. The end result: a perfect little home for some of my most prized possessions.

Sunday Centerpiece

This year we celebrated Father's Day with my husband's dad by grilling up a dry-aged, bone-in ribeye and whipping up a batch of Guinness stout brownies. mmmmMmmm! As most of my closest friends know, Guinness is on my all-time favorites list so it was only natural that the brownie made an appearance in this Sunday's centerpiece.

New Inspiration

The husband and I have returned from our honeymoon! We had an amazing time but I am so glad to be back in Seattle, the most beautiful place on earth. And it looks like we brought the sunshine back with us! It's great to have the weekend to decompress and reflect on the past 8 months as a newlywed.

So it's time for me to dig in when it comes to this blogging business. There will be some slight changes as I put a little more focus into it. I plan on spending more time on interior design inspiration with a series called "Real Seattle Apartments" and I'm taking volunteers! If you would like to be the first to have your REAL Seattle home featured on my blog please send me a message.

Along with great design inspiration my best friend, the tallented Maria Szablya, will be contributing kitchen and garden inspiration. This year she has gone completely gluten free and is itching to share what she has learned. She also has the most amazing urban garden and can't wait to incorporate what she is growing into her culinary creations.

Weekend Love

Happy Birthday Caswell! My one and only nephew just turned ONE! You are a little bit of your mommy and a little bit of your daddy and I LOVE it!


To take full advantage of the first realy sunny AND warm day of the year we took the pups to the dog park. The husband and our good friend Matt have been dilegently taking our dogs for what they call a "Wolf Pack": a nightly walk through the woods. As evidence shows by this picture it's paying off! They stuck close together and looked out for each other. VERY good dogs!

And very good dogs = very tired dogs :)

And now it is my time to snooze. I hope you all enjoyed the sun this weekend!

City Balcony Scene

Time to plant some greens! I decided to use decorations from my wedding to spruce up my balcony. Notice the monograms? Those were my cake toppers!

Some things have seasoned over. My Climbing Hydrangea is growing green again! This is the third year I've had it. Last year I got one flower, this year I'm hoping for more. I think it's trying to tell me that it's ready for a yard...

I used the cranberry crates from my wedding as planter boxes. I didn't have the nerve to pour soil directly in them so I got creative with some pots and planted some yellow flowers. Some other things I planted this year were strawberries and broccoli. Later this spring I will plant my favorite things to grow: tomatoes. Home grown tomatoes and basil are a small piece of Spring-time heaven!

Lena (aka the star of my blog) loves a good sun spot! Happy city gardening!

Hello 28

Wednesday I became an older lady. But with some help from my friends I was able to enjoy it. The evidence is clear. Just look at this beautiful jug my best friend gave me! It's my official vacation fund bank. Is that a bill in there?! It looks like I'm off to a good start.



To make my day even brighter my amazing sisters sent a beautiful sunshine bouquet to my office! You two are too sweet.

Birthday Wishes

Every year I treat myself to a birthday present. I think this year I will be entering and exiting my apartment in style.

Mr. K and I are saving up to buy a house. Our goal is to be homeowners by 2013. Well, you can imagine I have ants in my pants so I've decided to redecorate the apartment. Keep an eye out for before and after pictures!
